The seductive spirit of French singer and dancer Josephine Baker and the glamorous flapper style of the 1920’s was the inspiration for Suneet Varma’s new Couture 2014 collection.
The collection featured several pointed references to the Jazz Era like feathers, fringe and jeweled headbands but also had elements of Verma’s ultra feminine aesthetic like lace, fine embroidery and richly embellished velvets.
In addition to flapper inspired dresses and gowns embellished with pearls and Swarovski crystals, there were also saris and lehengas in the mix, accessorized with velvet turbans and colored plumes. The final look of the show featured a bridal lehenga worn with an elaborate gold necklace with strands of pearls running down the arms. The piece was designed by Verma as part of his collaboration with Azva Jewelers.
