The Inspiration: The collection called “Lightfall” played on the title both literally and figuratively conveying, on the one hand, how light illuminates what is dark as well as how light is transformative, giving birth to new ideas, new possibilities and in this case new designs and silhouettes.
The Collection: Figure hugging saris, lehengas and sari-gowns in shades of cream, peach, pink, gold and gunmetal, gleaming with an iridescent sheen figured prominently in the collection. But it was with the design of the gowns, which ranged from slinky to structured, where Gupta’s creativity really shined.
The Verdict: From the moment we saw Gupta’s first couture collection, we’ve regarded him as one of the few talents shaping the future of Indian fashion. Although this collection reinforced that sentiment, we feel the designer has a lot more in his creative arsenal than this collection showed.
