Gaurav Gupta
An alumni of Central Saint Martins in London, Gaurav’s graduate collection was awarded ‘The Future of Couture’ trophy at Altaroma Altamoda, Rome Couture Fashion Week and with ‘The Roots of Creativity’ title at the Mittelmoda Fashion Awards. Two years later, he returned to Mittelmoda as their youngest jury member.
After working with designers like Hussein Chalayan, Stella McCartney and Tristan Webber, Gaurav debuted his eponymous label at India Fashion Week in 2006. With this collection, Gaurav’s aesthetic sensibility was acknowledged as groundbreaking in terms of its distinct garment construction and untempered experimentation with form and fabric. He became an instant success and was awarded Breakthrough Designer on several occasions including the MTV Style Awards, Zoom Awards and Kingfisher Fashion Awards in India.
Besides his women’s prêt-a-porter line, the Gaurav Gupta brand has ventured into couture, menswear and kidswear, opened a flagship store and has recently collaborated with Swarovski on a line of handcrafted jewelry pieces. Gaurav works closely with lines and the motion of fabric. His inimitable take on three-dimensional embroideries and volume have created a signature look that is reminiscent of something otherwordly and ahead of its time.
